1. How do I enrol?

You fill in the application form, submit/fax/email/post it back to us and pay the fees for your chosen course.

If you need a student visa to come to the UK and you want to apply after 01/04/2009 for a course longer than 6 months, you will have to provide the college with a scanned copy of your passport (the page with your photograph and personal details). You will also need to send us documentary evidence that you have already studied English and that you are not a beginner. Below are some examples of the documents you can send us:

  • Secondary school attendance record or leaving certificate showing that you had English classes for a number of years.
  • Internationally-recognised certificate in English (for example Cambridge KET, PET, etc.).
  • Attendance certificate from any English classes you attended in your country.
  • College/University certificate showing your achievement in an English course.
  • A reference from an appropriately qualified person/tutor (for example your English teacher at university or college, or your private tutor) stating your level of English. This reference must include the referee’s full contact details.

The college does not need the original copies of the documents. They can be faxed to us or scanned and sent to us by email. However, the embassy will require the original copies. Please contact us by email if you have any more questions.

Before enrolling at Princes College, we strongly advise you to check the full immigration requirements at www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk.

2. How do I pay for my course from abroad?

You can transfer the payment directly into our bank account (details at the bottom of the application form). You can also pay by Credit Card. Please note that there is a Credit Card surcharge of 3%. If you want to pay by credit card, please fax us a letter of authorisation with the card holder's name and address, and the card number and expiry date. The letter of authorisation must be signed by the card holder. Our fax number is +44 20 7637 7291.

3. When can I start?

You can start on any Monday, unless you are an Absolute Beginner (we have specific starting dates for Absolute Beginners, please ask).

4. What exams can I take?

You can take the Cambridge Preliminary Test Exam (held several times a year), the Cambridge First Certificate Exam (held in March, June or December), the Cambridge Advanced (March, June and December) and the Cambridge Proficiency Exams (held in June and December).

If you attend the Business English classes you can prepare for the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC).

If you want to take an exam, you will need to pay an exam fee of approximately £95.00.

5. What happens if my visa is refused?

You may claim a refund of the tuition fees paid (less £199.00 administrative charges) provided the original copy of the Letter of Refusal from the British Embassy is sent to us by post, together with the original copy of the Certificate of Enrolment issued by the college. Please note that faxed or scanned/emailed copies of the letter of refusal will not be acceptable. Please see our Terms and Conditions

11. How do I complain? - Complaints Procedure

Princes College prides itself on the quality of tuition and pastoral care it offers. However if students have a complaint, the procedure below will be followed.

Stage 1 – Informal resolution

  • If a student has a complaint they should normally inform their teacher.
  • It is hoped that all complaints will be resolved quickly and informally.
  • If the teacher cannot resolve the matter, he/she should consult the Director of Studies.
  • If the Director of Studies cannot resolve the matter, it will be referred to the Principal/CEO.
  • Complaints made directly to the Director of studies will usually be referred to the relevant teacher.
  • The Director of Studies will make a written record of all concerns and complaints.

Stage 2- Formal resolution

  • If the complaint cannot be resolved on an informal basis, the student/ parent should put their complaint in writing to the Principal/CEO. The Principal/CEO will then consider what course of action to take.
  • The Principal/CEO will then meet the student/parent to discuss the complaint and reach a resolution.
  • Written records of all complaints will be kept
  • If still not resolve, the student can apply to English UK/British Council who can appoint an Ombudsman if the dispute is not resolved.
